Elementary G. 1 – 4 Curriculum

Based on comprehensive background knowledge and advanced English skills cultivated through American textbook classes, Emilton’s curriculum reinforces comprehension with twice the focus on vocabulary and conducts engaging and effective learning through newly upgraded workbooks.

1. Literature & Response Writing (Grade1-2)

For grades 1-2, the Into Reading program offers advanced lessons in literature, history, science, people, and culture through American textbooks. Each week, writing topics linked to the studied material are presented to ensure students are equipped with sufficient background knowledge before engaging in writing. Through a step-by-step brainstorming process tailored to each topic, students organize their thoughts and are guided to write on the given subject.

2. Themed Writing (Grade 3-4)

Students study writing through American textbooks, such as the Journeys literature program. Writing is conducted from multiple perspectives, including descriptive, dialogue, fictional, news report, informational, explanatory, and problem-solution essays. In class, teachers model how to structure the writing, and after completing one essay, students review the material themselves and finish an additional essay.

3. Speech & Debate

Using the essays completed in the Themed Writing class, students engage in speech presentations or debate sessions. Instead of impromptu speaking, students present their own scripts, developed through a five-step process: brainstorming, organizing, first draft, editing, and final draft.

4. Vocabulary & Sentence Writing

After learning essential vocabulary for each grade, students engage in workbook-based writing classes where they apply the vocabulary in sentences. The quarterly Vocabulary Contest encourages thorough review and mastery of vocabulary.

5. Grammar & Paragraph Writing

Students learn grammar concepts and immediately apply them by solving various exercises to reinforce and internalize the learned concepts.

6. Science

Students gain knowledge of physical, life, and earth sciences through diverse experiments and activities that enhance motivation. After each experiment, students engage in report writing activities that follow a structured three-step process: knowledge acquisition, science activity, and summary writing.

7. Novel

Students read, analyze, and study essential, recommended, and award-winning books for their grade level. Through this process, they naturally acquire key vocabulary and sentence structures.
